Internal Network (Student Dormitories)

Management Unit of Student Dormitory Network:

Computer Center

Service Description:

The dormitory network of our school is provided free of charge for all faculty, staff, and students. The dormitory network is divided into student dormitories and faculty/staff dormitories. The student dormitory area covers dormitories 1 to 8, with each bed provided with a 1Gbps Ethernet connection and assigned one fixed virtual IP for connection services. The dormitory area is connected to the Computer Center via GigaEthernet. Virtual IP addresses are used throughout the dormitory area, and NAT technology is employed to translate them into physical IP addresses, achieving a many-to-one conversion.

About NAT:

Due to the limited availability of IPv4 physical network addresses, it is not feasible to allocate one IP address per bed/user. Therefore, NAT technology is utilized to allow multiple computers to share a single external (physical) IP address. Within the dormitories, computers are assigned virtual IP addresses, and NAT address translation is performed through the firewall.

Bandwidth Management in Student Dormitories:

Bandwidth management measures are implemented in student dormitories. Currently, each IP is allocated a daily traffic quota of 8GB. Upon exceeding the quota, the device will immediately limit the upload/download speed for that IP to 256/512kbps. The speed limit measures are lifted every day at midnight, and traffic is recalculated. Bandwidth management measures are subject to regular review and adjustment.

網路流量查詢/Network Traffic Inquiry :Inquiry into traffic and records of exceeding quotas.
