According to the Global Burden of Disease study published by the American Heart Association, there are about 93.82 million stroke patients worldwide. Among them, brain hemorrhage (commonly known as hemorrhagic stroke) is one of the more severe types of stroke, carrying a higher risk of death and disability. In Taiwan, cerebrovascular disease continues to rank fourth among the ten leading causes of death, causing more than 10,000 deaths a year on average. People with chronic conditions such as the "three highs" (high blood pressure, high blood sugar and high blood lipids) are 2.3 to 2.8 times more likely to have a stroke than the general population, and the age of onset is getting younger, making it a health concern that cannot be ignored.
Poorly controlled "three highs" are a major risk factor for brain hemorrhage. Sudden drops in temperature, intense emotional swings or excessive straining while holding the breath may cause blood pressure to spike and increase the risk of bleeding. If "FAST" signs appear (facial drooping, weakness in one arm, slurred speech), or are accompanied by a severe headache or projectile vomiting, note the time of onset and call 119 immediately to get to a hospital within the golden treatment window.
Preventing stroke and brain hemorrhage starts with managing blood pressure and the "three highs" every day: quit smoking, avoid excessive drinking, eat a diet low in oil and salt and rich in fruits and vegetables, exercise regularly, measure your blood pressure daily and have regular health check-ups to protect your blood vessels!
