Recent media reports have highlighted the passing of a well-known news anchor due to lymphoma, serving as a reminder for the public to take early warning signs of lymphoma seriously. Early-stage lymphoma often presents with subtle symptoms—painless swollen lymph nodes that can easily be mistaken for a common cold or fatigue. If symptoms persist without improvement, prompt medical evaluation is advised.
Lymphoma arises from the abnormal proliferation of lymphocytes, and its exact cause has not been fully established. Known risk factors include compromised immune function, autoimmune diseases, certain viral infections (such as Epstein-Barr virus, hepatitis C virus, and human immunodeficiency virus HIV), and exposure to certain chemicals. Prolonged stress and insufficient sleep may also affect immune regulation. Common warning signs can be summarized as: fever, swelling, itching, night sweats, coughing, and unexplained weight loss.
If a lump persists for more than 2–4 weeks without subsiding, or is accompanied by the systemic symptoms described above, medical attention should be sought promptly. A physician will assess whether further investigation—such as imaging or biopsy—is warranted.
Early detection and accurate diagnosis are the keys to improving treatment outcomes.
