[60 Seconds on Health] How to Tell the Difference Between a Cold and Allergies?
Forward - Formosa Plastics Group, Medical Development Center - "Doctors Talk Health" Short Videos
Dear teachers, colleagues, and students,
Cold and allergy symptoms can often be hard to tell apart:
-
Cold symptoms usually appear within 1–3 days and may include a runny nose, nasal congestion, cough with phlegm, and sore throat. It’s recommended to see a doctor, get plenty of rest, and stay hydrated.
-
Allergy symptoms tend to occur at more predictable times, such as dry cough, nasal irritation, itchy eyes, or skin reactions. They often appear before bedtime, upon waking, or in response to environmental triggers.
-
Doctors usually prescribe allergy medications to manage symptoms, but avoiding allergens is an even more effective approach.
